When I was first looking into what could be done with a tile I had broken into many pieces, it occurred to me to put a dot of colored glaze on every irregularity along the edges of a shard; an irregularity could be a bump or a change in direction. I liked seeing what resulted when the shards were reassembled. The field of dots reminded me of both constellations above, and land seen below from an airplane at night with its many scattered lights from settlements.
